Congratulations to our Tropicana Speech Winners First Place - Catherine Coble Second Place - Lily Jamison Third Place - Ty Suchevits The first and second place winners will represent Butler Elementary at the District Speech Competition on Thursday, December 5th, 6:00 p.m. at Freeport High School. Student of the Month for November 2013 Congratulations to Hannah Storey for being Butler's Student of the Month for November 2013. Hannah is an outstanding student who strives to make a difference in the lives of others. She is a fourth grader in Mrs. McInnis' class. Hannah will be recognized by the South Walton Kiwanis Club as an Outstanding Citizen. Congrats Hannah!!
Butler Artists Featured in Walton County Fair Booth The Florida Department of Health fair booth at the Walton County Fair won a blue ribbon thanks to Butler students who made the feathers of the owl with healthy quotes. Thanks Butler Bears!

Butler Honors Veterans on Veteran's Day The Butler Elementary School Student Council organized and led the school's Annual Veteran's Day Commemoration on Tuesday, November 12th. All students participated in the ceremonies and were enriched to hear from guest speaker and Veteran Ms. Laura Bird of the U.S. Air Force.

Tooth Fairy Visits Butler Shelly Johnson with the Walton County Health Department visited Butler Elementary School this week to teach children proper dental hygiene. Students were given tooth brushes and taught how to properly brush their teeth and care for themselves. Dressed in a fairy dress with lots of glitter, Mrs. Johnson dazzled the students and brought a SMILE to our school.
PUMPKIN DAY Ms. Page's First Graders enjoyed hands-on learning on "Pumpkin Day." Students learned about pumpkins, measured their sizes, practiced math grouping with pumpkin seeds and more!
Student Council Holds Can Drive to Help OthersVan R. Butler Student Council organized their annual food drive for Caring & Sharing last week and collected over 2, 500 canned goods! The successful event was held just in time to benefit others for Thanksgiving. Congratulations to Ms. Plachte's Kindergarten class for donating the most canned goods with 165 items donated! Thank you to everyone who donated and for CARING and SHARING!!!!!
Fall is in the Air School Resource Officer Dep. Talley joined in the classroom fall activities in Ms. Rieger's fourth grade class by assisting with carving a pumpkin.
First Grade Apple Day Ms. Clark, Ms. Page and Mrs. Partridge's classes held "Apple Day"last week. It was a great success. Students participated in numerous activities including apple observations, apple math (measurement and graphing), apple print making, apple portraits, apple experiments, and an apple "taste-off." Granny Smith definitely won out as the grade favorite!
Biophilia! Fourth graders at Butler Elementary are participating in field studies at the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center along side scientist and conservationist to learn about our regions dynamic ecosystem.
UNITED WAY Butler Elementary School supports the local United Way and recently received a day of exterior beautification as part of the United Way's Day of Caring. Donation forms are available in the front office, if you would like to donate to the United Way. Thank you United Way for giving back to our community!

National Day of Peace Students covered the lawn of Butler Elementary last Friday as students "planted" their "pinwheels" for Peace. This event has become a favorite tradition at Butler which is led each year by Art Teacher Constance Rogers. Students learn how to create a pinwheel in art and enjoy personalizing it for planting.

Pre-Kindergarten Program Ends with a Cheer! Parents, siblings, family, and friends filled Butler Elementary's cafeteria on Wednesday, July 24th to see 52 bright-eyed four year olds perform an outstanding presentation of what they learned. Children ended the summer with a cheer. Special thanks to the Butler Pre-K staff Amy Simpson, Allie Stahl, Lindsey Brown, Chris Ward, Rachel Carroll, and Stephanie Wright.

Congratulations to Emma Sewell for mastering 26 levels on Math Facts in a Flash and being selected as our first Deputy for a Day! Emma was surprised with the award during lunch and Channel 13 WMBB News on Friday, February 7th. Emma will have lunch with Deputy Tally on Monday. Way to go Emma!!!
Students Give Back to the Community Butler Students proudly decorated bags with holiday cheer for a local community group to use in providing the Muscogee Indians with necessities and extras for the holidays.
ON-LINE SURVEY for the 2014-15 School Year The Walton County School District Calendar Committee would like to ask you to participate in a one question survey that is located on the WCSD webpage or you can click on the link below. It is the desire of the committee to create a calendar that best meets the needs of all students and we need your input to make this happen. We need to know your preference for early release days. The survey will be available through Friday, March 7th.
ATTENTION 4th Graders ECMS will hold cheerleading tryouts in April and upcoming 5th graders (our current 4th graders) are allowed to tryout. Tryout packets will be sent out soon but you may want to consider the South Walton High School Cheerleading One Day Clinic to help prepare students for tryouts.
Science Night Butler will host SCIENCE NIGHT on March 6th, 5:00-7:00 p.m. The Emerald Coast Science Center will bring a wide variety of HANDS-ON Science activities to our school for children to experience and see science COME TO LIFE!!!! Families are invited to come and discover just how much fun science can be!
